Garage Doors in London, OntarioThe workshop doorthat works as hard as you.

A detached garage or shop door sees tools, lumber and a truck pass through it in all weather. We fit heavy rollers, weather seals suited to an unheated space, and openers with enough force and lift to handle taller openings.

From the shop

Every part checked, every cycle tested.

Springs and cables are under a great deal of tension, and the proper way to handle them is well understood: the right winding bars, the door clamped, the tension released in steps. That care is simply how the job is done. It is also why our repairs hold and why the door runs true afterwards.

Garage door services

Repairs and new doors

We see a lot of doors that were installed well and then forgotten. Most of what we do is bringing them back: fresh rollers, correct spring tension, a tidy opener setup. Where a door is beyond that, we walk you through replacement.

Repair & Maintenance

Whether the door was hit, has drifted out of alignment or has simply grown loud and tired, the work in this group aims at the same result: a door that runs smoothly, seals properly and does not need thinking about.

Springs & Hardware

The heaviest part of our trade is quiet when it is done right. A door with correctly sized springs, sound cables and bearings that turn freely rises with two fingers, and that is the result every hardware service here is aimed at.

Garage Door Track Repair or ReplacementBacking out this morning, the mirror caught the track beside the door. Now there is a crease in the steel at about knee height, and the door stops with a bang every time a roller reaches it.
  4. Gloved hands holding a bright cable and pliers gripping a frayed cable beside a garage-door track and pulley. — Garage Door Cable Replacement, London
Garage Door Cable ReplacementThere was a sharp crack from the garage, and when you went to look the door had dropped on one side and jammed. A length of cable lies coiled on the floor by the bottom roller.
  5. Detached coil springs with end fittings and a cable rest on a bench in front of a closed garage door. — Torsion Spring Replacement, London

How a visit goes

Garage door cables carry the weight of the door as tension held by the springs, which is why the work follows a careful, well-rehearsed sequence rather than simply hooking a cable back on. On a torsion system the technician clamps the door, disconnects the opener and unloads the springs with…

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 52%Older homes

About 52% of homes in London were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Where most houses were built a generation or more ago, a good share of garage doors are still the originals: wood or early steel sections on extension springs. Those doors respond well to fresh pulleys, safety cables and a careful balance, and the technician carries the parts for them.

  • 49%

Single-detached houses make up about 49% of homes in London (2021 Census).

A neighbourhood with a mix of detached houses and townhouses or condos means a technician moves between a wide family double door and a narrow single in a row within the same afternoon. The van carries hardware for both, and each visit is planned for that door.

What information helps when I call?

Whether the door is sitting crooked, jammed partway or on the floor; whether you can see a cable hanging loose, frayed or wrapped around the shaft; whether there is a spring above the door or springs along the tracks; the door's rough height and whether it is a single or double; and what happened just before, such as the door coming down on something. A photo of the drum end and the bottom corner is useful.

Can a cable be too long or too short for the door?

Yes, and both cause trouble. A cable that is too long runs out of drum groove and starts a second layer over the first, which wears it and throws the balance off near the top of travel. A cable that is too short leaves the door hanging out of level or the drum without a secure wrap. The correct length comes from the door height, the drum and the lift type, so the technician measures rather than guesses.

Can I lift the door by hand while a cable is off?

Leave it. With one cable slack the door is being carried on one side only, so it is unbalanced and may bind or drop unevenly when moved. The technician arrives with clamps and a method for taking the door's weight before anything is moved, and that is the moment to lift it. Until then a stationary door is exactly what you want.

If only one spring broke, should both be replaced?

On a two-spring door both springs have completed the same number of cycles, so the intact one is usually close to the end of its life as well. Replacing the pair gives the door two matched springs sharing the load evenly and a fresh cycle count on both sides. The technician looks at the remaining spring's condition and the door's configuration, then explains the reasoning so you can choose the scope with a clear picture.

How high off the floor should the sensors sit?

Low. The industry checklist expects the beam no more than roughly 15 cm (6 in) up from the floor, so that a small child, a pet or a bicycle wheel breaks it. Both sensors are set at the same measured height and level with each other, since a difference of a couple of centimetres is enough to lose the beam. Within that rule the technician can raise them a little to keep them out of the strip where slush collects.
